Info Guide to Credit Card Terminals & Check Readers

Manual Credit Card Imprinters

Every retail business needs a manual credit card imprinter as a backup. These are rarely seen nowadays and consist of a metal holder and lever. The credit card is placed in the holder, special carbon paper is placed over the credit card, and the sliding lever (or pump lever) imprints the raised name, credit card number, and expiry date onto the carbon paper.

Should your retail location ever lose power or phone service, imprinters can save the day. They are also great for mobile businesses (think rental car attendants and taxi drivers) or whenever you will be in the field processing customer transactions (such as tradeshows and special events), and are much cheaper than the high-tech wireless credit card terminals.
