About POS Receipt Printers

You will need a printer with your credit card terminal in order to print transaction receipts. Printers can either be integrated into the credit terminal or can be separate devices. There are two three types of receipt printers:

Dot-matrix printers. Also called impact printers, these print on regular paper using an ink ribbon. Dot matrix printers are pretty cheap, but print speeds tend to be low as is print quality.

Thermal printers. Thermal printers use special heat-sensitive paper to print receipts. They are more expensive than dot-matrix receipt printers, but are faster, quieter, and more reliable as they have less moving parts. The one disadvantage is that they produce receipts that tend to curl up, making them a bit of a nusiance to write on.

Tip: Look for a receipt printer that uses bi-colored paper - white for the merchant and yellow for the customer copy.
