Info Guide to Credit Card Terminals & Check Readers

About Credit Card Readers

Credit card readers, also known as card swipers or magnetic swipe readers (MSR), are devices used to obtain information from customer credit cards and debit cards. Often they are integrated with credit card terminals (credit card machines) but they can also be stand-alone units.

Increasingly, stand-alone credit card readers are used to connect to a wireless PDA, Blackberry, or computer system device via a USB connection for POS transactions. This allows maximum flexibility in configuring your point of sale operations and is useful for mobile and field applications.

Depending on the technology used, some credit card readers can also be used to read information from different multiple formats such as from smart cards, ID badges and even driver's licenses.
