Frequently Asked Questions about CC Machines

Do I need a merchant account with my credit card terminal? Yes, credit card terminals can only be used in combination with a bank merchant account that processes credit cards.

Do I have to buy the credit card terminal with the merchant account? No. Although some merchant account providers may suggest you need to buy your credit card terminal through them, it's not true. The terminal simply has to be programmed to connect to the correct merchant bank.

Can credit card machines handle debit transactions? That depends on the unit. A PIN pad is needed for customers to be able to enter their bank PIN number. Some credit card machines have a PIN keypad built-in while others accept a separate PIN pad for debit transactions.
